Brief Introduction of Our School
The School of Statistics and Applied Mathematics at Anhui University of Finance and Economics (AUFE) was established on January 18, 2005, through the merger of the former Department of Statistics and the Department of Information and Computational Science at AUFE. The statistics discipline at AUFE dates back to 1959. The Department of Planning and Statistics was established in 1985 and was renamed the Department of Statistics in 2001. The mathematics discipline began enrolling students in 2002, leading to the establishment of the Department of Information and Computational Science in the same year. In 2016 and 2017, the School of Big Data and the Institute of Data Science were successively established.
The School comprises several teaching units, including the Department of Statistics and Data Science, the Department of Economic Statistics, the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Research Center for University Mathematics Teaching, and the Experimental and Practical Training Center. It currently offers six undergraduate programs: Statistics, Applied Statistics, Economic Statistics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Applied Statistics (a Sino-foreign cooperative education program). The Statistics program is a traditional strength and a featured program in Anhui Province at AUFE. In 2019, it was selected as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site. The programs of Economic Statistics, Applied Statistics, and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics were selected as Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites.
The School adheres to the principle of prioritizing disciplines and teaching, aiming to gather top-tier faculty, build first-class disciplines, and cultivate outstanding talents. It boasts a teaching faculty with rich experience and strong research capabilities. The School currently has 100 staff members, including 85 full-time teachers (comprising 25 professors, 26 associate professors, 46 master's supervisors, and 6 doctoral supervisors), with a doctoral rate among full-time teachers exceeding 75%. Among the faculty, one is selected as a Cultural Talent and one of the Four Batches by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, one is included in the National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project, one is a New Century Excellent Talent, one is a National Outstanding Teacher, two are Wanjiang Scholars Distinguished Professors, four are Academic and Technical Leaders in Anhui Province, one is a Jianghuai Cultural Talent Leading Talent and one is a Young Talent in Anhui Province, three are Teaching Masters in Anhui Province, and four are Teaching Newcomers in Anhui Province. Three faculty members have been recognized as highly cited scholars by Clarivate Analytics or Elsevier and among the top 2% of scientists globally. Multiple faculty members hold important positions such as vice president, vice chairman, or secretary-general in national academic societies.
The School currently offers five master's programs: Economic Statistics, Statistics (0714), Quantitative Economics, Applied Statistics, and Mathematics. In 2019, the Statistics discipline was ranked 10th in the Shanghai Ranking's Best Chinese Subjects Rankings. In 2020, it was selected as a Peak Construction Discipline in Anhui Province. In the past three years, the School has secured six National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, six National Social Science Foundation of China projects, four projects from the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Program of the Ministry of Education, and 63 provincial-level projects, including major projects of the Anhui Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Program. It has published 24 monographs, obtained 11 think-tank achievements rated B or above, won six provincial-level or above scientific research awards, and published 367 papers in journals rated C or above by the university.
Guided by the educational philosophy of cultivating talents with moral integrity, the School aims to cultivate applied talents and has achieved fruitful results. It currently has 1,443 full-time undergraduate students and 314 postgraduate students. Over the past three years, students from the School have won 268 international and national awards and 379 provincial and ministerial-level awards in various competitions. They have also secured 107 national-level and 47 provincial-level projects under the College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. The School's students consistently rank among the top in the university in terms of further education enrollment and employment rates. In 2024, the further education enrollment rate for undergraduate students reached 26.05%. The School has successively signed undergraduate education cooperation programs with Northern Illinois University in the United States, Plymouth University in the United Kingdom, and the Sejong Campus of Korea University, gradually improving the cultivation mechanism for students studying abroad and steadily advancing international education. Many graduates have pursued further studies at prestigious universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of California, San Diego, the University of California, Davis, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Edinburgh, and the National University of Singapore.
