Course name: Numerical Analysis

Course No.:011041    Credit(s): 3

Course Description

Numerical analysis is a compulsory course for students majoring in information and computing science. The target of the research is to find the numerical calculation for basic mathematical problems. It includes the numerical calculation error analysis, finding roots of equations, direct and iterative method of solving linear equations, interpolation and approximation of functions, numerical integration and differentiation, etc. The course requires students to use Matlab and advanced language to describe numerical algorithms and debug the algorithms. As a result, the course equips students with proper scientific calculating ability and also facilitates them in the research of information and scientific calculation and applied mathematics.

Course teaching objectives:

The student learning outcomes are what student would be able to know and to do on the completion of this course. In details are:

1. Master basic theory of numerical analysis, and be able to solve practical mathematical problems with Matlab and basic numerical algorithms in the course;

2. Be able to get correct results with computers and finish assignments and exercises;

3. Develop logic thinking ability and improve mathematical reasoning ability.
